In late October 2023, PNRI enthusiastically returned to in-person events with Bold Breakthroughs: a night of thrilling discovery and fine wine. This spectacular gathering, held at the exquisite AXIS venue in Pioneer Square after a four-year hiatus from our annual fundraiser, Evening of Wine, marked a long-awaited return, celebrating the forefront of genetics research.

Guests savored wines sourced from the finest PNW wineries, indulged in a sumptuous plated dinner, engaged in enlightening discussions with our scientists, and explored PNRI’s groundbreaking advancements, poised to revolutionize the landscape of health and medicine. It was an evening of discovery, connection, and a glimpse into the future of scientific innovation.

PNRI Bold Breakthroughs 2023

PNRI Bold Breakthroughs Event Program

Bold Breakthroughs featured the groundbreaking research of PNRI’s Dudley Lab that is revolutionizing the diagnosis and treatment of OTC deficiency—a devastating inherited metabolic disease. To explore the full scope of this innovation, the conversation included:

  • Dr. Aimée Dudley, the Senior Investigator at PNRI leading the OTC deficiency research project,
  • Dr. Andrea Gropman, the Principal Investigator of the Urea Cycle Disorders Consortium and the Division Chief of Neurodevelopmental Pediatrics and Neurogenetics at Children’s National Hospital
  • Tresa Warner, the president of the National Urea Cycle Disorders Foundation and a mother of a child with OTC deficiency, and
  • Jessie Hastings Conta, a licensed genetic counselor and owner of Pickhandle Consulting, who works to reduce barriers to access and financial coverage of genetic testing and counseling, moderated the discussion.

The speakers presented different perspectives on how genetic discoveries at PNRI will benefit patients and their families. Watch the recording of this powerful, intriguing, and inspiring conversation!
