Health and Safety Manager

Pacific Northwest Diabetes Research Institute is seeking an H&S Manager who will be responsible for the administration of the PDRI H&S program. The holder of this position will, with the assistance of the Principal Investigators and staff, assure compliance with WISHA, WAC, Seattle METRO, OSHA, DOT and all relevant regulations. Additionally he or she will maintain proper registration, databases, and ensure compliance with all local, state and federal regulations, licenses and permits concerning environmental health and safety.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
- Operate hazardous and radioactive waste programs
- Ensure compliance with sewer disposal guidelines
- Maintain chemical and equipment inventory systems
- Ensure compliance with "cradle to grave" chemical and radioactive tracking and disposal requirements
- Ensure compliance with Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS) and Federal "Right to Know" requirements
- Develop monitoring programs to ensure compliance with exposure limits for hazardous chemicals and radioactive materials
- Work closely with facilities staff to ensure a safe working environment
- Develop accident and spill response protocols
- Conduct investigations in response to accident/illness reports
- Operate recycling program
- Maintain radiation safety training and radioactive materials database
- Perform monthly wipe tests and run wipe test program
- Maintain dosimetry program
- Perform new employee training
- Perform annual safety training for all staff
- Perform blood borne pathogen training
- Run ergonomics program
- Maintain H&S bulletin board with all required postings
- Perform monthly laboratory safety inspections
Qualifications:
- B.S. or M.S. (preferred) in an associated field
- Minimum of three years work-related experience in the field of health and safety is required
- Must be knowledgeable about chemicals, radioactive materials and job safety requirements
- Experience and proficiency in database management techniques
- Administrative experience in a research environment is highly desirable
- High level of technical verbal fluency and listening skills
- Ability to prepare and perform employee training seminars, presentations and to present information effectively in both one-on-one and small group situations
- High proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, Access, and Power Point)
- Chemical Hygiene and Hazardous Waste Operations certification is preferred

Pediatric Phlebotomist

Pacific Northwest Diabetes Research Institute is seeking a part-time Pediatric Phlebotomist who will be responsible for conducting interviews with study participants and performing blood draws on infants up to 3 years of age. The successful candidate will be an energetic individual who exhibits a positive attitude, interacts comfortably with people from all walks of life and is totally committed to excellence.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Perform pediatric phlebotomy
- Conduct study interviews in person
- Administer informed consent and study questionnaires
- Exhibit problem-solving skills
Qualifications:
- Phlebotomist Certification
- Minimum of three years' experience exclusively in Infants and Pediatrics
- Proficiency in MS Office and all its major applications (Word, Excel, Outlook, Access, and Power Point), and database programs
- Ability to follow a strict protocol
- Ability to read scientific documents and communicate effectively with study participants
- Excellent communication skills
- Ability to work well in a team environment
- Strong interpersonal skills and leadership
- Must be self-motivated and able to demonstrate individual initiative
- Must possess a strong work ethic and an enthusiastic approach to one's work
- Valid Washington State Driver's License
