Research Technician – McLaughlin Lab
January 6, 2023
Pacific Northwest Research Institute (PNRI) is seeking a Research Technician for the McLaughlin Lab who will work with our team of scientists studying the human immune system, mobile genetic elements in the genome, and new genes created by these elements. We are seeking a candidate who can work as part of a multidisciplinary team of scientists working at the interface of evolutionary and molecular biology. Candidates with excellent communication skills and critical thinking aptitude are the most desirable. Individuals from groups historically excluded from the sciences are especially encouraged to apply.
The successful candidate will be able to gain an understanding of the background and motivation of the lab’s research in addition to a broader curiosity and interest about basic problems in human biology and animal evolution. We aim to help candidates become prepared for the next stage of their career, particularly those with plans to apply for graduate or medical school.
As a lab technician, you will assist with the development and execution of independent, small-scale research projects. With your research project, you are expected (and trained) to perform cloning, prepare genomic and plasmid DNA, test transgenes in tissue culture assays; or bioinformatic analyses such as writing perl/python scripts, performing sequence searches, and processing high-throughput sequencing data. The preferred position start date is early 2023 but flexible upon negotiation.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in the biological sciences or equivalent experience and/or education is required. One or more years of experience as a laboratory technician, undergraduate research assistant, or related laboratory experience is advantageous. Basic wet lab and computational skills are desirable but not required.
How to Apply:
For immediate consideration, please submit a cover letter and Curriculum vitae at: hr@pnri.org. NO PHONE CALLS PLEASE.
