Senior Research Technician

Pacific Northwest Research Institute (PNRI) is seeking a Senior Research Technician for the Stubbs Lab to assist with projects focused on gene regulatory mechanisms in brain development and behavior using the mouse model system. The technician will participate in animal breeding, genotyping and phenotypic testing including behavioral testing, brain dissections, and molecular pathology. The individual will also be involved in experiments involving neuron cell culture and molecular experiments such as quantitative PCR, preparation and analysis of RNA, protein and chromatin samples, chromatin-based methods such as ChIP and ATAC-seq; preparation and QC of libraries for Illumina sequencing; and data analysis and summary of results for publication. The technician will also assist in lab resource maintenance, lab safety, lab organization, and training.
The ideal candidate should be able to work independently using methods established in the lab, work with lab members to establish new experimental and analytical protocols based on the scientific literature, participate actively in research goals as part of the team, and contribute to research manuscript and grant proposal preparation. A background in Neuroscience and prior experience handling rodents will be considered as strong positives; strong training and documented experience in molecular biology/genomics are musts.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in molecular biology, molecular genetics, or genomics; interests and background in developmental biology and/or neuroscience preferred.
- Five or more years of experience as a Research Technician or equivalent experience, with hands-on experience in mouse genetics and molecular biology and genomics methods including RNA and protein analysis.
- Experience with molecular pathology methods such as immunohistochemistry, in situ hybridization, and confocal microscopy.
- Experience with mammalian tissue culture.
- Knowledge of and experience with quantitative methods including statistical analysis of molecular data.
- Excellent communications, organization and record keeping skills.
- Enthusiasm for working as an integral member of a collaborative research team.
