PNDRI's An Evening of Wine Raises Record Amount in Support of Diabetes Research
Annual event raises more than $300,000 to advance research focused on predicting, preventing, treating and ultimately curing diabetes in all its forms
Seattle – September 27, 2011 – More than 300 guests attended this year’s An Evening of Wine, an annual favorite that showcases regional wineries, to help raise a total $311,014 in support of diabetes research—the highest ever in the eight-year event history. An Evening of Wine is hosted by the Pacific Northwest Diabetes Research Institute and helps advance critical research focused on improved prevention, better treatment and progress toward cures of all types of diabetes.
PNDRI partnered with eight Washington wineries for the September 9 event, which featured a wine tasting reception with appetizers, both silent and live auctions, a fun blind wine tasting game, gourmet meal and pours from winery partners—all while mingling with the winemakers themselves.
This year’s winery partners included Boudreaux Cellars (Leavenworth), Col Solare Winery (Benton City), Dunham Cellars (Walla Walla), Gordon Brothers Family Vineyards (Tri-Cities), Pepper Bridge Winery (Walla Walla), Reininger Winery (Walla Walla), Sheridan Vineyard (Woodinville) and Va Piano Vineyards (Walla Walla).
“Our winery partners and sponsors are the lifeblood of this event,” said Lynn Kern, PNDRI Wine Guild Chair. “Without them, An Evening of Wine wouldn’t even take place, let alone be able to raise funds for diabetes research. Their partnership is critical to success and PNDRI greatly appreciates their patronage.”
This year’s sponsors included premier sponsor McKinstry; media partner Seattle Met; platinum sponsors Swedish Medical Center and Tryst Print Solutions; gold sponsor United Healthcare; silver sponsors Bennett, Bigelow & Leedom, P.S., Full Pull Wines, KeyBank, Group Health Cooperative, Nintendo of America, Overlake Hospital & Medical Center, Seattle Steam Company and Washington Research Foundation; and bronze sponsors Clark Nuber, P.S., Dapper + Associates, Jermaine Magnuson and Juanita Garrison, and Sound Pharmaceuticals, Inc.
An Evening of Wine 2011 always features unique auction items and packages, and 2011 was no exception. Among the most sought-after items was a Prohibition-era bottle of whiskey and a trip to the set of Emmy-nominated Parks and Recreation (NBC) to hang out with actor Chris Pratt (“Andy Dwyer”) and sit alongside the director while an episode is taped.
